Hello dear teacher and teacher candidates!

Today's topic is 21st century learning. So what is 21st century learning? In short, it is the identification of many of our skills with technology. As you can appreciate, this combination is expected to have many benefits for language learning.

With technology, we can easily access the resources we want, and we can develop all our other skills. speaking, listening, reading, writing... and we can personalize these areas as we wish. The conclusion I have reached from the courses I have taken and my own statements is that we should definitely use technology in many areas of education, as well as in the field of language education.

Technology will make the courses more entertaining, provide active participation, and thus students will both learn the language and keep up with the times and learn technology. It is impossible to avoid technology today. At the same time, we should ABSOLUTELY improve both ourselves and our students by getting help from meaningless technology.

We must take advantage of this endless benefit of technology, keep up with the times, and encourage our students to do so. These are my ideas about the 21st century, what about yours?

I told you before that I don't like saying goodbye and that we will meet again. So hello to all of you again!!!

I'm continuing this exciting and educational adventure from where I left off. We'll be together on this platform for the first time, but I'm not new here ;))  After the 'Current Issues' course I took last semester, I will use my blog for the 'Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language' course this semester. I will prepare the technology topics that we will cover in our course in practice from my blog and share them on my blog. In this way, I will both reinforce the information I learned in a practical way and I will share with you what I learned and how I followed. Let's embark on this new adventure together! That's all I have to say for now, take care of yourselves, we will see each other soon!

I hate goodbyes so I'll say let's take a break. I left behind a very busy period with a lot of homework, and that's why I'm very relieved. I've been really stressed lately. But still, the homework I enjoyed doing the most was definitely my blog posts. In general, I am very pleased with the current issues course. Let's continue with the details

Current issues course was above my expectations. It was a course that I thought would be difficult, but on the contrary, it was very enjoyable, creative and developmental. If I had to mention the difficulties of the course, one of them was the short assignment deadlines. It was a busy year, we did a lot of homework from many courses. Another difficulty was that it was in a group format. It is difficult to find multi-person groups and distribute tasks.

The weakness of the course is that we cannot get full feedback. This situation occurred due to time constraints, and the lecturer tried to pay attention to this situation, but it was not enough for me in some assignments. Another weakness was that we did not have the opportunity to re-edit the assignment after feedback.

I think that if these negativities are improved, the full benefit will be obtained from the course. My advice to students who will take this course is to get along with their groups, divide the work well, and get ideas from the blogs of upperclassmen.

The contributions of the course to me are: I have no interest in technology. Thanks to this course, I broke my prejudice against technology. I have personally seen the benefits of technology and will definitely use it in my classes in the future.

That's all from me. We'll see you again next term. Until then, take care xoxo.

Ahoj!!! Today we are in the last post where I will share homework with you. Since it was our exam week, we could only do the homework on the last day, so it was the fastest homework we did LOL. Let's take a look at this quick assignment!

Our final assignment is about the use of AI and its integration into teaching. For this assignment, I collaborated with only Dilara. We experienced unpleasant things with our previous group and we thought it would be better for us to leave the group.

Our topic is 'Describe your dream life by using future tense' in short then upload this description to the AI tool and command it to create an image.. The reason we chose this topic was that it was trending on social media and we heard that everyone who tried it was very surprised and even touched. That's why we thought it would attract the attention of students since it is a current and trending topic.

Our expectation from the students is that they first explain the visual prepared with AI using the future tense as an example, and then write their own dream lives in paragraph form and upload them to the AI tool. In the last step, we expect students to give feedback to the AI tool we use. We chose chatgpt, which is very common, as the AI tool.

Creating this project was a good simulation of our future teaching. It was an excellent opportunity to see how we can apply AI effectively in our classrooms.

You can access the material and lesson plan we have prepared here.

Bis später, alles Gute!!!

Hello again! We are together for a new activity and yes it is late again…  My exam week is very close and I am nervous because of this but it relaxes me to enter my blog and share something with you. I really liked using blogs and I would like to develop it just like a social media account. Now let's come to today's topic.

Today I will present you our Argumented reality (AR) teaching material. In short, AR is an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated 3D content. Our task was to prepare a teaching material with AR. For this material, we chose a city from abroad and introduced its museums, the symbol of the city, in short, introducing the city. The city we chose was Paris, which is the dream of many people and is known for its romanticism. I had been there twice before and it really has a fascinating atmosphere. That's why we wanted to introduce this place.

We prepared this material with my group friends Hayrunnisa Azbay, Eda Karaca and Meryem Dilara Demirkaynak. Our material includes a short introduction of the Notre Dome Cathedral, the Louvre Museum, Paris Fashion Week and of course the Eiffel Tower, which is a must. We also prepared an ASSURE model. The aim of our material is to create an environment where students feel like they are there even though they are not there, and to achieve this, we added a QR code to each introduction. When they scan the codes, a magnificent experience awaits them where they can see 360 degrees. They can turn it in any direction they want and examine the place being introduced. We had no difficulty in preparing this material, on the contrary, we enjoyed it very much.

It was a very enjoyable project both in terms of its subject and in terms of finding supporting references. I hope you enjoy reviewing it as much as we did. We have come to the end of the journey (for now) of making lessons more interesting and enjoyable with AR. Good luck to all of you, final exams are very close!

Guten Nacht!!!! I can hear you asking why I wrote good night? Yes, good night because our homework is left until the last hour of the last day. We are in a very busy period. Anyway, now that I'm done complaining, let's get started.

The Flipped Classroom Approach?

According to what we learned in the course, the flipped approach means that the teacher prepares a video or alternative lesson that is accessible to the students, and the students watch it and take notes, do the necessary activities at home and come to the lesson prepared. This approach saves time in class and improves the student's self-learning skills. Of course, it is very possible to encounter some negative situations with this approach. For example, not every student may watch the video, it may not be programmed. They can also complain to their parents about what is taught at school if everything is done at home. We must inform students and parents to avoid such negative situations. I think the flipped approach will be very effective in the development of students if it is applied consciously.

Our Flipped Classroom Task

For our task, my partner MeryemDilara, Eda and  I created a flipped video by "Animaker" teaching the comparatives. The video introduces the topic step by step and is followed by a QR code that links to a WordWall quiz for practice. You can easily access our video and quiz here. In our video, we designed the teachers to look like me and my bandmates and I thought it looked very cute.

In general, it was very exciting to prepare the video and reach such a result, but there were also a few situations where we had difficulties. Editing the video, finding suitable visuals, recording our voices smoothly, matching the sounds and visuals are the parts we have difficulty with. However, when we saw the results, we truly realized that it was worth it.

Despite the challenges, we learned so much from this experience, and we’re excited to see how our students will react! Don’t forget to watch our video, try the quiz, and share your thoughts with us! Tschüss!!!

Ciao!!!!

How are you, everyone? I hope you’re all doing great after the midterm exams. Welcome to my first experience with the task assigned in our Current Issues in Teaching class. This assignment was both fun and challenging, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Focusing on a grammar topic using corpus will be my first task on my blog, so I'm very excited. let's get started! Our grammar topic is the "for/since" distinction for high school students. In this material we created using the corpus, me and my group friends, Meryem Dilara Demirkaynak  and Eda Karaca   designed the material ourselves. We designed it to suit the age of the students. We added colors and visuals to make the material more fun and not boring. In its final form, our material was intensely colorful and descriptive. Click here to take a look.

We create our material using the COCA and CanvaBy combining these two programs, we aimed to prepare examples suitable for real life. In this way, we make the lesson more meaningful and help students see grammar through practical applications from daily life.  Just click here to review the material we have prepared.

It was really fun to use this material to bring out creativity in education. I realized once again that technology can be used in every field of education. Combining and harmonizing language with technology is of course exciting, but some problems may arise during implementation. We also encountered these problems, fortunately, we solved the problem as a result of our research. When students do not know how to use the material, this can scare them.  First, after explaining to them what corpus is, then we used filters to prevent this and explained all the steps carefully and step by step to avoid any problems.

To sum up what I wrote, learning and teaching what corpus is was a very different experience for me. I now understand better how useful corpus is and I can't wait to use it in my lessons in the future. Stay tuned for more updates and reflections!

That’s all for now—see you in the next post!
